My first trip to Beijing. I was quite skeptical even to board the flight. But what I headed to in the next few hours and over the next few days was something entirely unpredicted.
I was taken aback on looking at the huge airport stretching long distances with a roof coloured red in a traditional style. Good infrastructure was what was evident on a first sight at the city. Well maintained roads, with massive flyovers intertwined with each other keeps the traffic mellifluous. The pedestrian subways are maintained under wide roads. Commutation within the city is hardly any problem. The underground trains, taxis, buses collaboratively aid the passengers to move around with ease. Not to forget those locally made three wheelers which helps save some bucks for those who wish to refrain from using public transport.
The city is completely built with super structures which houses big corporations and offices.In the midst of this the entire city is sprinkled with historical places all over.The forbidden city, summer palace , temple of heaven, Tian'anmén square serve as the ornaments of memory, keeping alive the culture and traditions.
The Badaling is juxtaposed with Beijing, with a expressway running between them. This is the part of the earth that has been declared as one of the wonders of the world. The Great wall stretching thousand of kilometers scrapes through the Badaling over the hills. This masterpiece, believed to be visible from the earth's lonely natural satellite, attracts millions of visitors to show its majesty.
One is tempted to think that the people seem to be in a oyster shell. However, there are signs of the society moving away from conservatism into being liberal. Doors are open to foreigners to actively participate in the development of the country. the building of the national art museum by a French architect in the neighborhood of the Forbidden city is one to illustrate.
These apart, shopping centers like the silk market titillate the tourists to grab goods for dream prices. Bargain is the key to come out with bags of purchases. Wangfujing is a treat to the affluent folks displaying the well known brands
All in all I would say that it is incredible.
